GRAIN EXTRUDER

Extruder for processing grain crops increases the digestibility of feed from 60 to 90% comparing with the digestibility of nonprocessed grain.

 

Due to heat treatment, grain transforms into simpler substances that are easily digested and the final product increases in volume. Besides the digestibility improvement, the grain extruder destroys harmful microorganisms that could possibly appear during grain storage.

 

 

Raw material:

corn, wheat, barley, pea, bean, lupine etc.

 

Extrusion is performed with the following parameters:

moisture of raw material: 14 -16%

processing temperature : 120- 150 °С

time of cooking process: 30-40 seconds

fiber content in raw material: max 30%

 

It is possible to extrude grain mixtures but you should consider that: each grain crop has its own specific gravity andunique parameters for optimal extrusion which slightly complicates the task.

 

The ready product is similar to corn flips and can be used in feed and food industries. Extruded grain is increased in volume. For example, barley has the minimum magnification coefficient – 1.2, while corn has the maximum index – up to 3.

If you take whole grain crops as a raw material, the final exrudate will contain some small grain shell particles apparent to the naked eye. The shells are basically fiber, which had no transformation processes during the process of extrusion cooking.

If you take the hulled kernels of various cereal grains as a raw material, you’ll get a smooth product with no defects. Corn flips you can see at the store are obtained from corn groats by extrusion method. In the lines of extruded feeds (aquafeed, cat & dog food), the grain extruder can be used for instance for producing the grain components of the feed.
