OIL EXPELLER

The oil expeller presses out the vegetable oil from oil-yielding crops, with oil content up to 25%.

Usually the double pressing line includes two steps of oil pressing: the oil press for the first oil pressing and the oil press for the final oil pressing.

The oil expeller has been designed as a final oil press in the double pressing line.

What is the difference between the oil expeller and the preliminary oil press:

  • production capacity is reduced. Usually the double pressing line consists of 1 preliminary oil press and 2 (or even 3) oil expellers. There are no expellers with a capacity of 100 or 200 tons per day. The output of the oil expeller is 4.5 - 35 tons  per day.
  • the shaft rotation is reduced - from 5 to 27 shaft rotations per minute.
  • the gaps between the cage bars are smaller in comparison with preliminary press - from 0,1 to 1,0 mm.
  • higher processing temperature:105 -130 °С.
  • increased pressure inside the press cage.
  • the raw material moves more slowly inside the press cage.

During the preliminary oil pressing, sunflower (with oil content 52%) or rapeseed (with oil content 46%) easily and quickly give from 21 to 30% of the oil while       20 - 25% remain in the oil cake.

Let’s imagine the following situation; you need to process soy with oil content 25%. You have the same oil press, the same operation speed, the same processing temperature and the same settings of the press cage, probably you’ll be surprised but you’ll get only 5-8% of the oil.

The less oil content raw materials have the harder to squeeze it out.

Therefore, the oil cake of sunflower and rapeseed, soy (full fat soybean meal also called the extruded soy) are fed into the press of the final pressing – the oil expeller.

The process of processing is much slower than preliminary press usually has.

The oil cake while it has been discharged has a much more compressed form. Due to high pressure and shear, the temperature rises. Oil gradually moves from the center of the press cage to the gaps between the cage bars – this is the way it has been squeezed out.

The oil yield is up to 15-20%.

The residual oil content of the oil cake is 5-10%.
